I guess the hat went with the two crushed discs. And good riddance to them all!
About ten after eleven I heard from the doctor. He said that everything had gone well, but that the discs were very, very damaged and he had to “really open him up.” As a result, Mr. Rugby will be using a walker for the first few weeks he’s home so as not to put pressure on the nerves that were “jostled” during the surgery.
Right now he’s basically asleep. And then awake. When he’s not basically asleep and then awake, he’s on the phone. Talking, texting, asking me to record him for his Instagram account… it’s funny. He’s funny. He’s also uncomfortable, but they’ve given him great pain medication that he didn’t/doesn’t want (my son hates pain medication, takes nothing unless I cry and beg), plus preventative antibiotics and a bunch of other stuff. His back hurts a bit but his leg doesn’t, so there’s a big win already.
He is, however, really annoyed at the catheter. Who can blame him? But if that’s all that’s really, truly painful at this moment, I’ll take it. He (we) have a bit of a road ahead of us, but the doctor says he’s going to make a complete recovery.
So, let the healing begin.

Thank you for your prayers and good wishes. I’m lucky to have all of you in my life and in my corner!
Great news!
Thank you so much for this update Susan! I'm so happy the surgery went as planned and that Mr. Rugby will make a full recovery. I know it will be a process, but one day at a time. Sending hugs and more memoir chapters later this week. XO 🥰🙏❤️
