Need a Pick-Me-Up?
The news is filled with horror and sadness. And that’s just the politics.
I’m tired of it. I need a pick me up. I need to read something that will pick me up. If you’re feeling the same way, I hope the bits and pieces of heartwarming, funny, and yummy news I share here will pick you up. Make you smile. Make you shed happy tears that there are, really, I swear, so many good people in this world.
I also hope it will make you say, “Oooooh! I had no plans for tomorrow. But I know what I’m doing now!”
Get your tissues
This one made me cry those happy tears I just mentioned.
A 17-year-old girl from Iowa lost a priceless ring during a class trip to Corpus Christi, Texas. She was devastated. The ring contained her dad’s ashes. Somehow, she’d forgotten it on the beach.
When she got home, crying and beside herself, her mom called the Corpus Christi Parks and Rec department. Could they, would they, dig through the mountains of trash collected at the beach to try and find the ring?
They could. They would. And they did.
After three hours of digging through the trash in sweltering heat, they found the ring.
The moral of the story? There are so many good people out there but you should never travel to meet them wearing your good jewelry.
Go ahead. Try not to laugh
The finalists in the Comedy Pet Photography Awards 2023 have been announced. I snorted coffee through my nose looking at the pictures. You’ve been warned.
This is the kind of article I want to see in the news every day.
I can’t share the pictures here because that would be stealing and I’ve got enough bad habits, but please, click the link and check out "Barking" by finalist Chris Porsz, "The big boss" by finalist Kenichi Morinaga, and my favorite, "A life changing event" by finalist Michel Zoghzoghi.
Dogs and cats captured doing hysterical things. Throw babies (figuratively, of course) in the mix and that’s the news I’ll subscribe to.
I scream, you scream, we all scream…
for ice cream. But you knew that. But did you also know that tomorrow, Sunday, July 16, is National Ice Cream Day?
There’s nothing better than ice cream. Except free ice cream. And shops like Baskin and Robbins, Carvel, even Wegmans, are giving it away tomorrow. Get some. After you cut the lawn. After you empty the dishwasher. Or better yet, forget the chores. This is free ice cream we’re talking about. Hit the link and make a plan. Stop at one shop. Stop at three. They won’t know and I’ll never tell.
Thanks for joining me for this not-exactly-resilience-related edition of Building Resilience. If you come across good, funny, or heartwarming stories, I hope you’ll send me the links. I need the pick-me-up. Thanks.
