“There are good days and there are bad days, and this is one of them.” Do you know who said that? Lawrence Welk. That’s how old I am.
But let’s not go there.
I hope that today is a good day for you and if it isn't going too well at the moment, I have a suggestion: Find something to be grateful for. No, don’t tell me there’s nothing, the day is that bad, this moment is that awful.
Are you breathing?
Have you eaten today?
Is there a roof over your head?
I’m going to assume (I know, never a good idea, but still) that since you’re reading this, you’re breathing. Now I’d like you to feel gratitude for that condition. A good one, don’t you think? There are lots of folks who aren’t breathing and you can bet they wish they were.
Susan, let’s not get morbid, ok?
Fine. But you get my point. Find something to be grateful for. Really think about it. You know, marinate in it. Swim around in the fact that you’re breathing, thank God. You’re alive. No matter what’s happening right now that’s making your day less than stellar, you’re on the right side of the grass.
Let that sensation of gratitude, thankfulness, fill you up to your eyeballs. Give in to it. Feel that warmth in your chest. (It’s ok to get teary. Gratitude is a big emotion.)
You’re feeling it, right?
Good.
Because while feeling gratitude won't magically change your bad day into a good one, it will make it easier for you to handle whatever is going on.

Gratitude energizes us.
I’m not suggesting you’ll get so revved up you climb the nearest mountain, but you could. What I am suggesting is that the next time you’re having a rough day, go for gratitude.
It will give you the energy to get through. And when we get through, that’s called resilience. But you knew that.
